The PFT-1003CM serves as a portable AC hipot test set for field applications. This hipots offer a continuously adjustable AC voltage, essential for performing pass/fail AC over-voltage withstand tests on high voltage equipment, such as switchgear, circuit breakers, reclosers, vacuum bottles, hot sticks, bus ducts, and any other apparatus requiring AC test voltage. The PFT Series stands out for providing the most user-friendly AC hipots at this voltage and power level.

An essential component is the gapped core transformer capable of delivering up to 3 kVA of output power while consuming only 1.5 kVA, allowing the hipot to function using a standard 120Vac or 230Vac input. The equipment is furnished with a two-range voltmeter, a three-range current meter, and a guard circuit to ensure accurate measurements of leakage current.

Designed as a convenient two-piece portable unit, this test kit boasts features such as a secondary connected 2-range voltmeter spanning 0 – 50 / 100 kV AC, a 3-range current meter covering 0 – 1 mA AC with x1, x10, and x100 multipliers, and a fixed overload set to 120% of the variable transformer's rated output current. It also includes protective measures like transit-protected meters to prevent damage during transportation between test sites, a Guard/Ground circuit for precise leakage current measurement, and a gapped core transformer design for compensating capacitive loads.
